Fertilizers In the Spotlight at COP30: Why COP30’s LEAF Statement and the “Fertilizing the Future” Roadmap Matter for Global Decarbonisation

The future of fertiliser is low-emission — and COP30 just made it a global priority. FarmN is proud to lead the way with the world’s first technology-inclusive Gold Standard™ methodology for low-emission nitrogen fertiliser, helping pre-FID and retrofit projects unlock carbon credit revenue and improve profitability. We’re ready to support producers and FMCGs with LCA, carbon intensity certification, carbon crediting and Scope 3 solutions. Let’s build a cleaner, credible fertiliser supply chain

Just this week COP30 witnessed a landmark moment for agriculture: the launch of the Alliance for Low Emission Ammonia based Fertilizers (LEAF) “Action Statement” and the publication of the comprehensive roadmap by the Hydrogen Council & McKinsey & Company titled “Fertilizing the Future: A Roadmap to Scale Low-Emission Ammonia Fertilizers.”

Why is this noteworthy?

It tells the world that….

  • More than half of all food grown around the world, for people and animals, relies on the use of nitrogen fertilizers!
  • Pressure is mounting on the fertilizer industry to deliver credible decarbonisation solutions with almost 50% of major FMCGs and agribusinesses looking to reduce their Scope 3 emissions.
  • To accelerate market scale-up, two actions are essential:
    • Accelerate large-scale investments by closing the cost gap and activating demand.
    • Boost investor confidence and reduce transaction costs through standards and market-based mechanisms.
  • Whilst supply-side scale is accelerating (15Mtpa at FID+ and 1.3 Mtpa on-line); many advanced low-emission ammonia and fertilizer projects are now seeking final investment decisions (FIDs) of which some are still trying to secure finance.

That’s where opportunity meets innovation. Turning Climate Ambition into Commercial Advantage

FarmN is leading the way. We’ve developed the world’s first technology-inclusive Gold Standard ™ methodology for low-emission nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing.

This framework allows pre-FID and non-ETS/Regulated projects to integrate forecast carbon credit revenues directly into financial models - significantly contributing to project profitability and accelerating investment readiness.

We support greenfield and retrofit low-emission fertilizer plants (green or blue ammonia) through:

  • Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Carbon Intensity Certification
  • Carbon Credit project design and management
  • ESG and Scope 3 reporting for FMCGs seeking verified low-emission inputs

A Simple Equation for a Complex Challenge

Switching to low-emission nitrogen fertilizer adds only 1–3% to base product cost but can cut fertilizer-input-related emissions by up to 80%, delivering large climate benefits for minimal cost.

That’s not just sustainability — that’s smart economics.

And it’s happening now.

If you are a fertilizer producer contemplating a greenfield or upgrade project, an investor in ammonia/fertilizer value chains, or a major agri-food / FMCG company seeking credible Scope 3 solutions - we invite you to explore how FarmN can help you realise the value of low-emission fertilizer today.

Let’s make the future fertilizer chain clean, credible and carbon-smart
